just got mt 08 diff. cover what size bolts will it take the factory ones in my 01 wont be long enough right. Also purchased 8 oz. of friction modifier to go in gear oil was thinking about using royal purple 75/140 is it worth the money or should i go with another synthetic. thanks
5/16-18 X 1 1/4 bolt size, thanks to partsguyed.. I got my RP 75-140 synthetic for 9.99 a quart at Pep-Boys, must have been a sale or a mistake but grabbed it fast, good stuff, its been in mine for about 50,000 miles. It has the modifier already added to it but you might have to add a bit more modifier to it, I did, still had grabbing around tight corners. I added about a half bottle of the 5 oz Motorcraft bottle.
i bought two bottles of the ford modifier so should probably use both bottles with the royal purple hope i can find it at that price goin to try pepboys tomarrow
ford parts guy told me to put both bottles in rear to start with i was worried about too muchslippage thats why i came here first thanks izzy351
No problem... Royal Purple has the FM in it already, as do many of the 75W-140s out there. I run RP in mine with the '08 cover and like it fine. Obviously, if you have an open diff, it doesn't matter either way. Check your door tag for the code under "axle". "31" = non LS, "C1" = LS (assuming 3.73 diff).
My neighor uses amsoil because when towing his diff oil temp wouldn't go down after climbing a hill. With the amsoil it returned to normal very quickly. He has a 38 foot toy hauler and gauges on everything.
RP is okay stuff. Most will do you fine, as they're all syn in that weight from what I've seen anyway. Just make sure you verify whether it has the FM added already or not before you do anything, as well as check your door sticker code. If you have a non-LS diff, presence of additive or not makes no difference to you.
