performance between car & truck (truck wins!)
I found the egt would only work in certain sectors of the screen.
When I got home from work yesterday my CS was on the porch. I got her hooked up just now and took a ride. Cruise control set at 65,30 min. ride,ECT was 194,EOT was 203 once everything stabilized. It is 80 deg. outside with steady rain. When ROMPING on it during a HARD accel. from a dead stop the ECT came up to 198 but cooled back down immediately when I got out of it. Looks to me that under a load my temp. spread SHOULD be good but I haven't towed with the Insight yet. I'll get around to that next week. From what I've read on here a 9 deg. spread is par for the course for just toolin' around with no load. BTW tranny at 155,boost at 26 max. during my romp. The factory boost gauge is DEAD ON according to the Insight. Don't know how I ever got by without the Insight. All this brings me to another question. I am going to do a coolant change soon and I wanted the temp. readings from the ECT,EOT diff. before doing my flush & fill. Given the fact thay my temps. look pretty much perfect so far would ya'll use the VC-9 during the flush or just flush it out a few times with distilled to get all the old coolant out and go back with a perfect mix of new Gold coolant? I've been told by a couple of guys that I'm worrying for nothin' but I can't help but think the VC-9 may break some stuff loose that could potentially CAUSE problems instead of PREVENTING them. You know the old saying, don't fix it if it ain't broke. I've been running a coolant filter since 4,500 mi. so the system SHOULD be pretty clean. What do ya'll think? BTW, I'm not arguing with the few that told me I was worrying for nothin',I'm just lookin' for a few more opinions. Thanks in advance!!
This morning I went out and turned the key on without starting the truck (after the truck sat all night) and my Tranny Temp. read 71 deg.,my ECT read 74 deg.,and my EOT read 77 deg. I would assume this means I have a 3 deg. variance between my ECT and EOT temps. for whatever reason.(just variances in sending units or something)I am pretty sure everything should have cooled equally in 12 hrs. If this is the case,my temp. spread is actually 3 deg. closer than I thought.
i think if you let it sit 2 days in a stabilized temp the readings would be the same
You may be right. I did not drive the truck today,I just compared the temps. this morning. When I get home from work today it will be a full 24 hrs. sitting. I'll report back over the weekend and let ya'll know what I come up with(not that it really matters,I'm in good shape either way). It'll just be nice to know how close all my readings are. It takes a while for all that oil to cool inside the engine I guess. A good portion of the coolant is in the radiator and that will naturally cool faster than the oil inside the engine. Thanks for all the help!!
even a cold truck may report variable readings ..
if the ambient temp changes a few degrees in a couple of hours the three fluids will take different times to stabilize do to fluid location ,sender location and viscosity ,
but like you stated your looking OK either way
