I received the make shift connectors in the mail. They use 20gauge wires which is what the factory wires are I think. I flattened out the backs and sandwiched them together to fit into the mirror switch. They are tight fitting so they wont come out. Now I just need to splice everything together . I'll post some pics later.
Everything is spliced together now, but I need to fix the IN/OUT (right/left) operation of the mirrors. They are reversed because i'm using a 2008 switch with 2005 mirrors. I think i will do the relay fix used for the 2008+ mirror install. The reason it's reversed is because the polarity was changed in 2008 for the IN/OUT operation. Anytime you interchange 99-07 mirror parts with 2008+ parts this will happen. The relay basically changes the polarity for just the in/out movement.
nobodyridz4free did you get the 2008 power lock switches working right? My 2002 has 5 wires and the 2008 switch only has 4. From what you posted it looks like there are 2 grounds if my 2002 has the same wiring as the 2005's so I guess I would just need to tie the two grounds together. I have not had a chance to put my new panels in and wire up the new switches but I talked to a guy that did it and he said he was having some issues with the new power lock switches. Mainly they did not illuminate and did not always lock and unlock.
Yes I got the door locks working *but the illumination isn't working. My truck also has 5 wires. I only used 4 wires and left the 5th(ground) wire unhooked. I'm sure you can wire the two grounds together if you wish. I figured a ground is a ground and the spare would not be needed. I did have a problem with them at first but it was because I wired them wrong. I corrected it and they work fine. I didn't realize about the illumination problem til today when you asked. I'll go shove the other ground in there and see if that somehow changes things.
why wouldn't the illumination work in the first place? it seems like all the wires are run except 1 ground. would it be because the circuit is not complete because the ground is not connected?
any luck with the illumination yet? im getting ready to do my swap, also what did you do about the doors colliding with the dash? i was thinking about sanding the corners of the panels down so they dont hit but idk if that will do it.
I've been busy and forgot about it. I have not gotten the illumination working. As for the dash, I cut/sanded the panel edge that touches the door. It worked well.
I don't think you understand how we fiend for pictures of projects... If you start a thread like this you must post pics of progress within five minutes or it didn't actually happen.
do you have any pictures of the door panel corners? i am getting ready to do this swap and i would love to know how you trimmed them to not interfear with the dash.
