This came from the ford guys who do nothing but display ford diesels and answer questions at shows all over the us.I talked to them yesterday in ennis TX at the NHRA event.I was told to put cetain in every tank of fuel , not to let it idle for more than five minutes and not to poke around,(run it hard, thats what it was built for). And to always run motor craft oil if you can imagine that from the ford guys!
as for cetane additive, some of us do, and some of us don't. on the newer trucks (06 and up) it doesn't seem to make a difference like it did before. some swear by it, others see no difference.
IF you're going to idle for an hour, then use the high idle mod (hook two wires together if you have the upfitter switches on the dash. )
the newer trucks with more emissions stuff don't take well to extended idling (hours and hours, or days like some in the north oil fields do over the winter)..
and as mentioned, they are meant to work. not sit around.
everyone seems to strongly recommend staying with ford oil & fuel filters. (I do my own fuel filters, but have ford change the oil).
