that is a matter of oppinion. i would say the edelbrock rpm is a better pick of the 2, but if you already have the dominator intake i'm sure it will be fine.

Well the only 2 holleys Im firmiliar with was the street master and the strip Dominator, which were like night and day as far as the size of the ports...but this is going back to the mid 70s..alot has changed since then.. I guess what it boils down to..what your want ing to get out of your motor, what your going to use it for,how much you want to build it? There's Guys in this forum that run from 200HP up to 700HP +

Scott, what heads are you running? I run stock heads on my 360, and the intake ports on them are smaller than the ports on the Edelbrock RPM intake. I had to port the heads. It's not that hard, just plan on a little more work if you go that way.

Rusty,
I'm running an Edelbrock Performer intake on stock heads and stock exhaust manifolds (2.5" pipes). I never thought to check the ports on the heads. I'm not having any problems, per say, but I'm going to pull the motor again in a month or so to put in a Crane 901 camshaft. Is porting the heads something I should look at or is that just for the RPM intake?

From my experiance, I believe the RPM should be port matched... I just went thru misery trying to make one work on my application.(I didnt port match- and am anticipating Kurts results!!) The regular Performer 390 doesnt have nearly as large of port, so should be fine with stock heads. BTW, your gonna love the 901!!!

No, I didnt see the need on a mild rebuild, but can see it would be beneficial on a high horse, high rpm motor.( someone will chime in if I'm wrong I hope )

I am planning on a MONSTER 390 that I want to put in a slammed 2wd 73-78
short bed ( IF I can find one! ) and I will be taking advantage of all the recomended oil mods on that motor.

The easiest way to check your intake to head ports, is to set your intake onthe heads with the gaskets in place, and run down a few intake bolts, take spray Dy-kem and spray it thru where the carb should be..and it will leave witness marks on the gasket..trace out your gasket, and that will give you a template for the intake on the heads...DONT port them to that size..Unless you have ported before and had good results? just port match them and blend to the original port.. I hope I explained this right!!

One of these days , I'll learn to keep my trap shut!! LOL!! Russ-Good Luck...Kurts done it now he knows!!

the intake will be reused on the 390 im building. 390 +.030, Ported Edel Heads, TRW Forged pistons bout 9.5:1 Comp., Erson Rockers, Holley 770, Ceramic coat hedders, not sure on cam yet

When I take this intake off, I should be able to see if there was any gasket hanging in the hole, right?
