i bought a remote start for my 08 and am wondering if anyone has hidden the antenae in the headliner or dash? i know this may limit my range but i am not sold on seeing the antenae from outside looking in. is this idea possible or silly?
I have mine on top right in the super duty lettering above the mirror.I don't even notice it.It blends in perfectly.I wouldn't hide it because you might lose reception and it sure is nice hitting the start button from inside buildings or far off in large parking lots.
Ford installed mine above the rear view mirror as well. You would never know its there unless I pointed it out to you. It cant be seen from outside the truck. I know it works from at least 1,000 feet which is WAAAAAY better than the factory key fob's.
I had mine mounted in the top left corner of the windshield. The reception is horrible. I have to be near the front of the truck for it to work. It seems from these posts, I should mount it in the center so I can get that "1000ft" reception.
moving from the left of the windshiel to the center wont fix that. Make sure the antenna hasnt come loose from the module. I accidentally did that when wiring up some aux lights.
I had the dealer install it and haven't double checked their work yet. Its been like that since I had it installed so I think its connected. What am I looking for? Loose connection etc?
You need to find the control box, probably under the dash. There is a single wire leading from the box to your antenna. Just check to see that it didnt get pulled out or that the wire didnt get cut or pinched along the way somewhere.
Sounds like you definitely have an antenna issue though. When my antenna wire pulled out it would only work if I was within 50 ft of the truck, but with it hooked up properly I can use it from the back end of Wal-Mart and the truck is running when I get out to the parking lot.
