7.3 versus 6.0 is guaranteed to start an argument. I know 2 diesel mechanics that I truly trust both of them will tell you that a 7.3 will take as much abuse as any motor there is, how ever a 2005 6.0 if taken care of is a great truck. I looked a lot for a 2005 F 350 Crew cab dually 6.0 and found a lot more of the newer 6.4 and the mechanics that I know had little information on the 6.4 at that time approximately 14 months ago and both thought I was stupid to take what they were offering me for my 2000 F 350 7.3.

One other side bar to the 7.3 versus 6.0 and I do not care either way so long as we are not talking about a stock 2003 1/2 to 2004 but how many 6.0 were sold and how many 7.3 were sold

The 7.3 is far better in my opinion as it is more reliable and is less touchy when it comes to maintenance. I don't want to spend my life on truck maintenance. I will stick with one that I change the oil in, change fuel filters at interval, put diesel in and go. I can let my truck idle for days with no problems. 205K and never had any work done to it. Now you have to do mods to the diesel engines to get them to the durability and reliability of old.

More to the point, you will need a DRW, so look for a 7.3 first, then move up from there. The 05 KR you mentioned is probably fine, just know that you will have more issues from time to time with it, not that it is a bad engine, but side by side, all equal, the 6.0 will be in the shop more than the 7.3.

6.0

I would keep the 7.3.. I had a 6.0 never again.
