I have a 1998 F-150 with the E4OD. It has the tow package with the exterior factory cooler. I pull a 4000# camper with this truck. The truck has 140K miles, the transmission was rebuilt @ 118K with all new clutches, TSB upgrades, and all new shift soleniods. I just replaced the torque convertor and added a perma cool remote oil filter and put a mechanical temp gauge at the filter. I also flushed the coolers and lines with Summit cooler flush. The new torque convertor cured all lock up and spongy takeoff problems. I am getting a delayed shift from 1-2 if I hold the accelerator any position other that light (just barely pushing it) where the rpms go >3000. I am also getting a delay or slight flare from 2-3. The 1-2 shift does shift firm and so does the 3-OD. Since I have done all this, the tranny temp stays @ 150-160, but I haven't towed with it yet. Can anyone point me to a solution? I was thinking the shift solenoids are either dirty or possibly sticking. I also was thinking about putting in a Transgo Tugger shift kit or a new Valve Body. Thanks in Advance.
Just to update all, I put in a new valve body, shift solenoid pack and accumulator from Central Valve Bodies and it seems to have cured all the irregular shifting. It keeps getting better the more I drive it, I guess the computer is relearning the shifting. I also have some shims I can add in the accumulator to get firmer shifts. I am going to play with that later.
