I just picked up a 88 E 350 ambulance with duals, auto trans and 7.3 in it, ABS, working air.
69,000 original miles from fire department.
Thought it would make a good tool carrier, any opinions on this?
Paid $2700.
First year for the 7.3 and last year for the C6 - methinks you did good - you got all the nice upgrades associated with the 7.3 (as compared to the 6.9) without none of the mess that is an early E4OD (which would be the later model year transmission). 69k is low enough to where cavitation shouldn't be an issue any time soon, however do make sure you run the proper additive in the coolant. If she has no external trans cooler install one, she will like it. Does she have the instant-chains setup on the rear axle?
It won't be a full ABS, rear abs only. Should be a clean unit with the low mileage. Expect more wear on the engine due to extended idling, but still shouldn't be an issue.
Can't recall what your other truck is, I'm thinking it's similar? Have you got a CVOR for them? MTO around here is checking the 3/4 and one ton class trucks pretty close for that sort of thing, and if they are in a poor mood, it can get costly.

My other truck is 92 F450 superduty, 7.3 E4OD extended frame flatbed with hoist, 64,000 original km.s, crappy open diff. could'nt pull a soft you know out of a tub of lard.
Not sure what the status of the CVOR on this one will be but I already got nailed for that on the 92 $$$$$$$$$$ ouch! pinched me over in the Mardale area, seems they have nothing better to do than sit in the beer store parking lot and wait for unfamiliar trucks to go by.
6.5 hour drive home at night in the E350, no problems except something is leaking fuel on top of the block, I'm thinking cracked injector line, that's happened bfore on my old 86.
Should be fun to get at on this van.
Runs well, great pickup and power considering the weight it's carrying, I'll have to strip all the the lights, wiring, and extra cabinets out, there's just to much junk on this thing.
100% rust free, back duals still have 65% rubber, front are done, needs tailpipe.
They included all the services records from day one so I know how it was kept care of. Brakes are new all around.

For the cavitation I use the DCA4+ stuff that the international dealerships carry, it's a blue and sparkly liquid and IIRC two 8oz bottles are needed of it.
The limited slip diff is nice, but don't get too confident with it, it has its limitations - test it on some wet grass and dirt first before you venture out to places where you know you'll need it or sure, it could be worn with a need of rebuild.
And your fuel leak is likely from the return lines between the injectors, either a hose or an o-ring under the injector cap. The high-pressure lines rarely crack, it's usually a result of the clamps that should hold them together not being there at all - check to see if you have them clamps and if you don't get some real quick (methinks MWFI has them for decent prices).

Will definetly do the anti cav. treatment since I want to drain the system anyway, I think the rear heater coil may be plugged.
Being an ambulance with the rear heater, your system will take more than the standard 8 gallons of coolant. If it's a relatively standard size heater core, plus the hose length, I'd guess another 1-2 gallons likely.
6.5 hour drive....from Huntsville? Where'd you pick the thing up? Sounds like a southwest ontario trip if I were to guess.....

Already took a bushel basket of wire out from the communication system.
Van front.
Took the engine cowl off and all 4 return line tees are leaking on one side.
Guess I'll try the International dealer in town for a kit.
Make some calls at the auto as well and see who has the best price.
Much easier to get at the top of the engine than I expected.
This thing also has a button that you push and it kicks in a little solinoid that brings up the idle speed in case your sitting with all the equipment running I guess.
Wouldn't be much use to me I don't think unless I had a winch on it.
My 92 has a cable pull to bring the idle up when using the 12,000 lb. winch or all the other electrical crap it had on it in it's former life.
Saw some good deals on Ford diesels in Michigan, the economy is still slow there and a lot of the extra vehicles fellows have are going for sale, some good deals at other people exspense.
That sucks, when I lived down there it was THE Motor City, now it's a not happy place for some folks.

I may take you up on that at some point in the future. I can see a trek to the rust free belt some time in the future to drive back an IDI body if things keep going the way they are.
