I just bought this truck yesterday and yes it is a beater, but it started up and i drove it home. Now today, it sputtered, died then didn't even crank over, so i charged the batteries and when i went back out there, still nothing. with my remote starter and the batteries charged i got it to crank over, so i turned the key to the on position, waited for the gp's to cycle then hit the remote starter, but it just cranked and cranked. The wiring is a rats nest and i don't know where to start.
Crank it while holding the shraeder valve on the filter head. If You get air, Your going to need to replace the return line O-Rings. Plenty of info on that job here.
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...old-style.html Here is a link to super info about the glowplugs. Maybe test each one and replace any that are bad.
Also make sure that the fuel shut off solenoid is working. With the key on pull the wire off off the FSS at the injector pump and listen for a click. If no click then test for 12v at the FSS wire.
However as ff says it will not start if there is any air in the fuel system.
i checked the fuel filter and it was full, lift pump seems to be working, there is power to the fss and it is clicking, but i'm not getting fuel out the injectors. injection pumps don't just go out like that do they? i just drove it! could the plunger get stuck in the fss? the injection pump gets hot on the top of it where the electrical stuff is. is that normal?
