need help 96 powerstroke

need help 96 powerstroke
posting for a friend. 1996 7.3 powerstroke. truck will start up and run till engine temp reaches 180, then it will blow grayish smoke and shut down, will not restart till it cools of, then does the same thing again. any help please. truck is mostly stock, 3" dp 4" exhaust, air intake and tuner

Has he been in a lot of rain/water? Could be water in the IDM, wag. Easy check, unbolt from drivers inside fender, unplug it and shake it to see..

Sounds like classic IPR O ring bad...Its a cheap test . Take it out and look at it...

If the IPR o Ring is not the problem . you may have an injector O ring issue...

May have it fixed. Replaced the ipr o-ring and the fuel filter o-ring. Test drive time

Not fixed. Shuts off right at 185. Does it have a second temp switch for the CPU?

thanks. got it out. one o-ring has a small nick in it but not torn do you think that is the proplem? we r going to replace them while we r in here anyways. but no one has them till tues.
