I have seen posted it takes a certain code reader for our trucks to retrieve stored codes. Can someone tell me what that is so I can find someplace that has one. I'm in Oklahoma City, my truck is an 02 automatic 4WD, 7.3 with 175,000 on it. Only mod is the 6637 air filter. The trouble I having is my SES light comes on when I pull my 5th wheel, and only when I get into several long uphill pulls. Once I get back a more level area it will go out, everyplace I have taken it tells me the light has to be on for them to get any codes. I never get the SES light any other time, just under a harder pull. All help is appreciated.
Did you buy the truck used? It kinda sounds like you have tuner/chip or programmer installed on the engine.. The SES light coming on while pulling a hill is normal for this... The HPOP is not keeping up with demand..My light comes all the time during hard pull while pulling my trailer.. it is normal..
BUT... if it does have a tuner/chip or programmer.. you might have high exhaust temps which will cause harm to your engine during your heavy pull.. without having the proper gauge to monitor them..
Welcome to the forum..
I bought the truck used, from the dealership, it was a one owner and the dealership had done all of the service on the truck, I'm 99% sure it does not have a chip. They had all the records ect. The previous owner just used it for a daily driver, no hauling or towing.
From what I've been able to find my issue is an overboost or HPOP not supplying enough fuel.
