I bought the Harbor Freight pipe bender, it's the 16 ton manual one. 16 Ton Hydraulic Pipe Bender
I've need to make the header back part of the exhaust on at least 3 cars/trucks... so I figured I'd just buy this...
So I need to bend something... Took a fence post and cut about 18" and bent it about 30 deg... the results were less than impresive... it was flat at the outside of the bend and would really suck if it was something that needed to flow.
I've seen the video on youtube where someone takes sand and duct tape... fills the pipe with sand and then bends it and it comes out very nice / almost like mandrel bent... but I really expected a better bend out of this... I tried both the 2.0" and 2.5", the results were about the same.
That's just the way these benders work. I have used the sand trick before, and it works very well, but the pipe must be completely filled and you need to go slowly. You can use an expandable rubber freeze plug in the ends of the pipe to make a bit better of a seal than duct tape.
