I have to replace the hub assembly on the front passenger side of my EX and I want to know if anyone has any suggestions on a good brand, prefereably w/ a lifetime warranty. So far my options are $25 bucks off a used Ex at a wrecking yard. $119 for the Duralast w/ 1 yr warranty at Autozone or $348 for the Timken w/ a 1 yr warranty at Autozone. Someone suggested Warn and I called them and they have some for $235 WITH a LIFETIME warranty which is kinda important to me b/c I plan on keeping my EX forever and I don't want to have to buy parts twice if I can help it and as things have needed to be replaced I've tried to replace them all with items that have lifetime warranties, plus trying to upgrade things, like my shocks broke and I upgraded to Rancho w/ a lifetime warranty, which turned out to also be the cheapest option b/c there was a $500 rebate on them when u also buy a liftkit so I got a Jeep liftkit for like $180 something (no I don't own a jeep) and it all ended up costing me was $17 bucks for 4 shocks and a liftkit I don't need LOL. BTW Anyone want to buy a Rancho front end lift kit for a Jeep Wrangler? LOL. So if anyone knows of any good brand upgrade type hub assemblies I'd like to hear about it.
If the used ones at the yard are loose (turn freely) i'd stay with the OEM.
All aftermarket ones require you to manually engage them.
This is a PITA when it is raining or snowing.
I like the on the fly option and it only takes a few minutes to change them out.
I replaced mine earlier this year with a Dyna-trac free spin hub conversion. The kit was super nice and easy install. Not a lifetime warranty but it is serviceable so you can take them apart clean them and repack them and be good as new.
As monsta says, It sounds like there is some confusion here on the name of the parts. The wheel hub assembly has a unit bearing and is what I think the OP is looking to change. A locking hub, which is something you'd buy from Warn, is the the part that connects the axle power to the wheel hub.
What are the odds that I was lead to believe I needed a whole hub assembly and was looking for one when I came across Warn locking hubs that I thought was the wrong part, then I buy the SKF brand hub assembly and hubby goes to put it on an turns out it's the locking hub causing all the probs. It's been stuck on engaged for God knows how long. Turns out it is probably why I dropped my front driveline and caused thousands in damage and why I have the winding noise in the front end and all kinds of other stuff. Right now I have no locking hub on the passenger side and am trying to decide if I want the Warn hubs. They are about the same price as the Ford part but they have a lifetime warranty. Wondering if anyone else knows of any other brands of locking hubs and any opinions on which one is best. I don't have enough money to buy anything like the free wheeling thing spyntec or dynatrac or whatever someone suggested. But I can spend a little more if it's a better part. Thanks
If you want to replace your auto hubs, warn or superwinch are your options.
If your auto hub stuck but no parts broken you can probably bring it back. I think the guzzle site has instructions on tearing it all apart to clean - or do it the easy way - stick it in a coffee can with a quart of oil over night - should free it up. just let it drain for an hour or so before putting it back on the truck
