tranny swap

in my 01 250 i have an auto tranny. the tranny is starting to slip and i would love to swap it out to a manual instead of rebuild the auto one the truck has a programmer intake and 4 inch turbo back. what do u think would be easier swap or rebuild and what would i need inorder to swap them?

Well I dont know off hand what all you need to do the swap. There have been threads on here about doin it you might try searchin for them.

All I know is its WAY more than you think. IMO you would be way better off just rebuilding what you already have. If you get it built right with all the goodys you'll absolutly love it and you will have no more problems. These tranys are fairly weak stock but with good TC and a tugger kit they are pretty damn good. I just did mine and am very pleased with it.

Oh and dont forget the bigger trany cooler. Thats a must to extend the life of a trany!

IIRC, You'll need the tranny, flywheel, clutch assembly, shifter, and hydraulic pedal set-up for the swap. You may need to rebalance the driveshaft for the different tranny as well. If a 4WD, then you'll need the different transfer case. It's do-able. But, a nicely rebuilt auto from someone like BTS or John Wood will be less hassle and both of them would be able to keep up with your performance mods.

You should be able to get a master rebuild kit for a couple hundred dollars.

If you can somehow aford it, I would highly recomend a bigger better TC, thats the weakest part of the auto.
