Bouncing Bed and Bed bolts

I recently bought a 07 f 150 super crew with a 6.5 ft bed, 5.4L,towing package and love it with only one complaint, the bed bounces alot. I can't see nothing loose, but when I was looking I noticed it looks like there are only 4 bed mounting bolts. I see more channels that are mounted to the box but i can't see any holes where bolts were or could go. It has a factory bed liner so baring taking it out I can't see the bed floor. It seems to me there should be more bolts than 4. Would this cause the bed bounce? Thanks

There should in fact be 6 bolts that connect the bed to the frame. When you say a factory bed liner do you mean spray in liner or a drop in one? I don't recall a spray on liner coming from the factory so that is why I am asking. What could of happened is, if it is a spray on liner, when they did the work the idiots forgot to replace all the bolts once they finished the work.

This could be your problem and the way to find the holes will be to get at it from underneath or find someone with a truck just like yours and mark them from measuring their truck. I would also like to ask how many miles are on the truck and how did the person before you treat the truck?

No, it has a plastic bed liner not sprayed on. nothing showed up on the carfax. I bought it from a dealer so I have no idea how the previous owner treated it, but it is in great condition. Tomorrow I will snap a pic of the only places I see bolts from under the truck. It has 48,000 miles.

Well seems like it was treated good so the previous owner most likely didn't abuse it. I was thinking that maybe the shocks had gone and needed to be replaced but not likely with only 48k on the truck. Lifting out the plastic drop in liner really shouldn't be too hard. Plus if you had the money I would recommend a spray on liner such as Line-X because that will protect the bed of the truck for a longer period then the plastic one will.

If it is an xlt model you might want to look into some nicer rear shocks this could help some. You may also want to get some new tires soon that aren't the crappie factory set. It should smooth out the ride and bed some. Just a few suggestions.

I have an '05 with a lift and mud tires on it. There isn't much dampening when it comes to vibrations transfering to the bed. If you have a load in it, it will probably go away. I noticed at freeway speeds with my Nitto Mud Grapplers that the bed would shake pretty good but it was on there solid as can be. I think it's just the stiff suspension and all that combined with an empty bed. Just my 2 cents.

With an empty bed, mine shakes pretty well. I've driven around a few times in the past two weeks since I've had it with a considerable load (1000lbs or so) and the bed shakes are non existent with that much cargo.

I'm not saying that it's possible that you could have some bed bolts loose, but I'm just chiming in that bed shakes are normal and expected when unloaded.

Mine used to shake and shimmy as well and I could notice it in the mirror when new. Once I added the shell it went away.

I also second a good set of tires. The crappy Pirelli's from the factory rode like crap compared to the Nitto's now.

Same here and its driving me crazy...I leaning toward the leaf springs (just because I can't find anything else). How about you get these and let us know if it works ...I would have, but i just got my programmer instead. Oh, I have new tires and just replaced the shocks (which had 38K on and were shot), but still shakes/bounces when empty.

If I remember correctly, retorqueing the bed bolts was done a couple of times under warranty, whenever I took the truck to the dealer. It was part of their safety check. Come to think of it, they haven't done that lately.
