Bed rusting

Driving down the road today I noticed in my side view mirror that my bed was bouncing independently from the cab. When I got home I grabbed the bed at the bottom edge, below the fuel door, and lifted; it had quite a bit of upward movement. Looking underneath you can see some heavy rust. I'm sure if I pull out the be liner the bed its a mess underneath. I was poking around ebay looking for a replacement bed. Theres a lot of brand new take off beds from '14s and '15's that were getting specialty bodies. My truck is an '06, does anyone know if a 14 or 15 bed will fit it? While they look identical Im not sure the bolt holes didn't get moved over the years.

They fit but you may have to get a longer gas filler tube. The only difference is the square gas door and the flair around the wheelwell is different.

Yes it will fit fine. I had the same problem with my 05. Got a 2011 bed put on earlier this year, and as far as the gas hose goes you can use your existing gas hose. I enlarged the def hole on the new bed and the hose could stretch to that.

From your description, the bed supports are rusted through. If the rest of the bed is in OK condition it is possible to weld in some replacement support tubes, paint and rust-proof them, and bolt the bed back in place.

Since the bed needs to come off to do a repair or a replacement, I'd look are the repair first. I did a repair on my '06 bed. Most of the work is removing the bed. The actual repairs are easy when the bed it off the truck. You also get the opportunity to see, fix and rustproof all of the stuff that is normally hidden by the bed.
