need tech help, changed oil & filter, Drove truck Approx 400mi,doing 65 mph check engine light came on,on bridge could not stop for 2 mi,slowed down for traffic engine shut down, would not start, towed in too dealership, they retrieve codes P2291 ICP too low, P2290 ICP too low, special tool found both valve cover leaking STC fitting leaking air ,they say needs repair high pressure lines at dummy plugs and repair ICP ten retest estimate $3,400.00 warranty expired 5 yrs 7 mo 63000 mi paid $300 for test ,$160 for tow. Picked up truck with trailer and brought home, truck was 100 mi away, will any emissions warranty cover this, 7yr 70,000 mi defects
Warranty is 5 yrs./ 100,000 miles which ever comes 1st. Emissions warranty I think is 7 yrs, 80,000 miles but I don't thing the hpop system comes under the emissions warranty. If anyone knows better please correct me.
I still don't understand where your coming from. Cost is labor and parts, bottom line. You are free to take it elsewhere. I would if I thought I was getting ripped off or I would tackle it myself. That last option could be more costly depending on capabilities. Don't forget you do pay for knowledge and experience and the investment that the tech may have in specialized tools. Also the dealership doesn't get there property for free.
I don't think I am explaining myself. This seems to be only a problem to Ford owners that have changed the oil themselves. Now if Ford has sold you a vehicle that cannot have the oil changed by the owner. Then Ford needs to tell the owner that.
It really has nothing to do with the oil change unless you are using the wrong oil, wrong filter, or you are waiting too long for the oil change.
The STC fitting leaking is not COMPLETELY independent of the factors described above, but if everything is done properly it is. It is just a fact that the 05's are prone to this failure - unfortunately.
Edit -
Personally, I think you can find places to get it done more cheaply (or even tackle it yourself).
