Approval to Service ALL 5R110 Automatic Transmissions with MERCON® LV
Beginning immediately ALL (2003 to 2010 MY) 5R110 automatic transmissions can be serviced with MERCON® LV automatic transmission fluid in place of MERCON® SP.
Initially only the 2009/10MY 5R110 automatic transmissions were filled and serviced with MERCON® LV. In an effort to reduce complexity, Ford Motor Company is allowing all previous model year 5R110 automatic transmissions to be serviced with MERCON® LV automatic transmission fluid. This pertains to top off as well as fluid replacement. Mixing of MERCON® LV and MERCON® SP in the 5R110 transmission is acceptable. Extensive testing has been performed to insure there are no functional or durability concerns with the use of MERCON® LV in the 5R110 automatic transmission.
Vehicles affected are F-Series Super Duty trucks (including chassis cab, motorhome, LCF).
Motorcraft MERCON® LV is now available in three sizes:
Part Number: XT-10-QLVC - 1 quart
Part Number: XT-10-DLV - 55 gallon drum
Part Number: XT-10-BLV - Bulk
Further information can be found in the Workshop Manual, Section 307-1, Automatic Transmission
lol?
the 5r had shutter issues at first so this fluid was the fix
however I have no documentation on hand to back it up
,, the sp was a lighter fluid and so is the lv so i think that the viscosity was the real fix for the shutter
?? maybe Mark K will chime in I am just guessing at this point
Hi Mark !!
only going by what I read not by first hand knowledge like you have ..
here and there
SP was made specifically for that transmission and the SP is short for shutter proof
so I just related it to the issue .. and if the wrong fluid is used there have been shutter issues
Ya, they just replaced my coolers based on the info from my ScanGauge ll. Dealers are definately diff. Glad I have a good one.
I assume you have the newest flash. Was it showing the wrench light for temp differences? I've been wondering how much you can rely on this for oil cooler/EGR cooler failure indication. Not trying to hijack, just this statement really interested me.

I have the latest flash but the light had not come on yet. The dealer went by the gauge readings.
