I grabbed a 2wd np435 for 20 bucks off a friend and was wondering how hard it would be to install in a 75 f250 4x4. i know that since i have a divorced transfer case that i would have room to install it. What would better fit the application for installing an np435 in my truck?
I thought about the t-19 but haven't been able to find any online locally or a at my local pick your part and hope it works. the one thing i'm not sure about is that the np435 has a long tailshaft. I know that the divorced transfer case is going to provide me with a lot of room though.
Pretty sure mine is a 2wd np435. The previous owner replaced the 4wd one with it because it no longer has the hookup for the transfer case shifter on it, I have to go buy one for a 4wd now so everything will work.
First of all, correct me if I'm wrong here but I thought all highboys came with 435's? Regardless, here are some pics of the one ton 2wd 435 that I used to replace the stock highboy 435. The one ton 2wd units have a 31 or 32 spline output with a larger 1350 yoke. The 2wd tranny's don't have the cast in mount for the t-case shifter obviously, so here some pics of the quickie bracket that I made. I used the two left side bolts on the tail housing and the trans mount bolt where it protrudes through. Get longer bolts for the tail housing on the bracket side. Not too long though, as they go into the case and could possibly contact the gears.
tailshaft housings are still different between SOME NP435 2wd's and highboy 4x4 divorced NP435's. I have a few I can take pics of, but it's dark out. So the short (drive)shaft might still not fit.
Is there such a thing as a short shaft or long shaft NP435? All the ones i've seen are the same. I'm pretty sure that only the divorced case trucks had the cast in mount for the t-case lever. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
T-19 has synchro 1st gear. Married 4x4 NP435's and T18/19's have the parallelogram tail housing bolt pattern for NP 203's, and 205's, etc.... But the 2wd and Dana 21 tcase 4x4's have the square tail housing bolt pattern. Of these, the tail housing length have some differences, (and the dana 21 style has a longer tail shaft, with a spud shaft that fits over the back)
The 4x4 shifter hole will be needed though, IIRC. Been a long while.
