im 18 years old and my first truck is a 1994 turbo diesel. i was brought up around them as i got a truck i noticed there was not a whine 2 it. its 2 quiet to me. is there any suggestions that are near stock that i can buy to hear a small whine???? thanks
First step is to replace the stock air filter with the 6637 mod. You can build your own or buy a kit. Riffraff Diesel has a complete kit that is popular here. I built my own before the kit was available and here is a picture of it.
tehres a distinct difference in the sound on the IDI to the powerstroke. the powerstroke has a high pressure oil pump with a resivour in the front of the motor that you cannot miss with oil lines going to either head on the block.
take a pic and post it.... There should be a cover on the engine saying 7.3 direct injection...
Unless he's like 90% of us and its collecting dust somewhere. IDI has glow plugs outside the valve covers and the injection pump on the motor... easy to spot.
Hey hussler
in your picture I see you just have a filter.
My question is do you not need a back plate like I see with the cold air kits?
I like to do all my own fab work, and Im thinking about fab'in up a air box.

True dat. I hate engine covers. lol. So if it's a PSD. It's pretty easy to know whether it's a psd or not. If it's a PSD then the front of your engine will look similar to this picture, but you won't have the extra pipes for the IC like my pic has and you won't have the regulator on the front. You will have a fuel bowl in the middle of the engine instead.
GT_350, you do not need a back plate like the CIA have on them.

Airbox isn't necessary. Filter on a stick, you're good to go I wrote up a thread on a DIY Tymar not too long ago. Tymar is in Spokane BTW, if you decide to just buy one from Dale instead of build it yourself.
