So I can fix everything on my truck. Except for the transmission. They just baffle me. I don't have any problem with mine. I was just wondering which is better. What are the pros and cons of each. Which one is stronger? I've searched for threads on this, but haven't found anything. I appreciate the input
C-6 is a great trans, tough, simple but limits your mpg with no OD.
E4OD is also a great trans, pretty tough too. It gets a bad rap, but IMO the bad things that happen to it are from user neglect/abuse. Heat kills E4ODs, they need a larger than stock external cooler and maintaining the service interval religiously. Not trying to drive one in OD while towing 10,000lbs will also help its life expectancy, and of course, maintain the fluid level!
I am not a big fan of automatics to begin with, but I have had 3 F series with E40Ds and no problems with any......... I just maintain them, if you do not maintain them properly.......BAD things will happen!
Trans code T is an AOD. The early versions like yours aren't known to be the strongest, later versions got bigger bands and clutch packs that hold more TQ. If the trans works well now it should continue to do so but you can add some insurance with a valvebody shift kit like those from TransGo and B&M. How many miles on the truck?
c6 trans is an awsome trans if you do alot of towing or hauling. c6 with a 351 up front u cant even tell the trailors there. but its horrible on the highway the motor works at 3000 rpms just to go almost 65mph. dare push her to 75mph like i did mine and it runs at between 3500-4000 rpm.
The truck's got 220k miles on it. I just had it rebuilt about 10k ago. It was used to tow a 30ft boat for most of it's life. Would an E4OD be a drop in replacement?
just make sure that the trans your getting is off the same motor u have. cus they put those e40ds on the inline 6, 302, 351, and 7.3 diesel. im not sure if the did on the 460 tho but they probably did.

If it lasted 220k pulling a 30ft boat then that's pretty good, you should have no problems just driving it around.

No not even close.. even if you get a small block version. The E4OD is computer controlled so you would have to add the necessary wiring and change the EEC.
