Yes ,it was under warranty. But after all the trouble i went through with this issue and calling ford direct to tell them how i was treated when the problem was being handled by my dealer and that field tech.
To make a long story short ,I called ford direct again when i picked up my truck and they agreed to let the service manager let me take the alternator back with me to give to my dealer's service manager with paperwork because i wanted them to see the problem that they said wasn't there.
Either way ,ford has their part back and i'm just happy my truck is fixed.
Hi guys,
My 6.7 is whining too. uh oh.
It is loud when cold, like a mourning dove, kinda cyclical.
I would like to change to the heavy-duty alternator and see if I can add the rapid heater element.
Anyone ever tried this?
Can't believe the dealer let me spec without it--in upper MI. My fault.
No heated seats either...
I've been in already for a reseal of windshield before 3k miles.
thanks
I have the same problem with my 2011, it has just under 16,000 miles, the noise started around 12/2011 or 1/2012, I have had the dealer check it, and they told me the factory rep came and listed to it also, they call it a turbo spool down hoot noise, and are saying it is normal, and this I disagree with, it wasn't making the noise for the first 9 months and or untill cold weather got here, but it is still making the noise even after it has warmed up.

There has probably seen some evolution of thought since the next to last post (9-20-10) Did you search?
Interestingly, mine STOPPED hooting in it's second winter. It never hooted when warm. I don't think I had one of the bad turbos, it always made wicked boost and sounded sweet to my ears.
The hoot was one of perhaps a dozen (yes) issues that caused me to finally get rid of the truck. I will come back to ford if they step up the game vs their competition and stop playing warranty games.
Sorry hit button too soon, but I'm trying to get it replaced under warranty because I know the noise isn't normal like they keep telling me.
What dealer are you using?
same as yours. 2011 6.7 , but mine was an early release 2010. as I mentioned I had it most of 2 winters. I can't recall the build date of mine, but it was the first one my dealer sold. Maybe built in July or August 2010. Is hooting it really loud? Does it sound like the video posted on a thread here? The last I heard it was attributed to tolerance stacking, which to my nonengineer mind means the parts don't fit together when cold. There are MUCH more knowledgeable folks around here than me, I bet they can help.
Oh and my dealer didn't have a clue in fall 2010 about the hoot so they pulled up another new one next to it and it hooted too. they said "normal" but I was uninspired.
Given how bad the dealer was, I'd rather not say. They were in upper MI. on lake superior. ...
hope it runs long and well for you, good luck

Reason: incomplete
No problem, thanks, lot of miles between your direction and my direction, I have about 6 different Ford dealers around the area I can argue with if necessary.
