just pulled the sunvisor off our 55. it was missing several screws that hold it on. got it off and SURPRISE!!!!!!!!!! it has some nasty rust bubbles if the frt of the roof. someone had made a pleated headliner for it. they used carpet padding and glued it to the roof. with the screw holes left wide open, it saturated the padding. the inner roof header and the outside roof skin are basically rust scale. i stuck my finger thru the roof! anyone know of a parts truck with a usable roof within a couple hundred miles? unless you know a place that has roof patch parts.
I believe midfifty sells a fiberglass replacement, it would be a glue on application. If it's not a real big area you could make your own patch panels and do it in small segments. There have been quite a few that have done this repair but can't direct you at the moment but sure they will be along shortly to lend a hand. Good luck and sorry to hear of your misfortune.
that's what i will end up doing if i cant find a donor. the inside header is gonna be the hard part. i do body and paint for a living so i am not scared. but with 25+ experience, i really don't need anymore either, lol. looking for the easier way out. if i find the parts, i could do it in a day. if i can't find them, gonna take a few days.
just found one local. it's on a big truck. they want $200 and won't budge. i have a buddy with a tow truck that knows where all the old stuff is. this is the only one local we can find. no rust but typical farm truck roof dents. i should be able to hammer and dolly them pretty easy especially off the truck. wish i had found it sooner as it has a perfect windshield. the old cab was in pretty good shape except the lt hinge pillar was jacked up from the door getting wrapped around it. doors are gone. i tried to deal on the cab but felt they wanted way to much for it. i even told them they could keep the huge pack rat that lives in it. they said no, the rat is included.......
got the roof picked up. looks like a winner! prior to finding the surprising rust on ours, i had been going back and forth on shaving the drip rails. since we are already gonna be there for this, i think they are gonna be gone.

I see you started a gallery but there is no pictures yet. Now it the time to document all your process work on replacing your roof skin with good explaination of the process. It will be good for the next fellow who comes along asking how to do it and we will be able to direct him/her to you. Besides all that we would like to see your truck.

I resize my pictures and have them in a seperate folder for web view, them upload them to my gallery using the browse controls provided. I did have problems myself until I resized them for web view. Hopefully this may be of some help.
