IMHO the 300 is nothing but a gas fired Diesel engine.... I ran mine for a week with the efi heads off a walker Y-pipe and it sounded just like a inline 6 Diesel engine like the big rigs run these days, think I posted vids in my build thread of it like that

I was thinking about this thread today while I was driving around in my '92 Bronco 300. Mine has the stock exhaust that needs replacing but when I'm driving it, it sounds something like a cross between a tractor and diesel. The 300 just seems to have a sound all it's own. It just doesn't sound like a high spinning V8 but has a throatier sound than a straight 4 banger.

That seems like a better solution... I was offering the "cheap" alternative>

I'm a fan of the no muffler approach. Not too loud but it sounds like a tractor. Very cool.

Bill, you'd like the new Bronco I have sitting in my driveway. Headers down to two little mufflers (not sure what kind) right under the cab.

Got it that way and it definitely needs some exhaust work, but talk about an attention getter, and powerful sounding. Too loud for my tastes, but it's kinda fun in the mean time. Need to get a sound clip.

*sigh* Not at the moment. My phone slipped out of my pocket at the same time I closed the door of my car. The door caught it. Crunch

Been trying to budget a new phone.

I'm very sorry to hear that! Sounds like you caught a bit of my luck.

So what's the story on this new Bronk? When did you buy it? What's the specs?

Just a wild stab in the dark here: '93, 302 / E4OD..?

You owe me a buck if I'm right!

Hey Bill,
Close. It's an '84 with a 300. Has an 8.8" 3.55 in the rear, and the NP-435 3spd/granny transmission.

Has less than 100k miles on it (in amazing condition) and the guy I bought it from bought it from the original owner. An older couple who babied it (every oil change in the owners manual and at what miles). The feedback 1bbl died on it, so he put on headers, an Offy intake, and a 600cfm Holley carb, a crummy backyard exhaust (seen above) and could never get it running. When I went to look at it, he had to put starting fluid in it every time to fire it up. Total hack job with vacuum lines hanging loose, no brake booster, etc. Wish I had taken pictures.

Bought it from him for $600, dragged it to a parking lot away from his house, took the carb apart in the parking lot and got it working, and then drove it back to my house (didn't feel like towing it 25 miles). Last weekend, I pulled the feedback ignition out of it and put a Duraspark II from a junk yard in it. Runs like a top. Lol.

Bought it to sell and double my money, but my wife quickly fell in love with it, wants to sell her car, and drive it. Can't say I blame her....

Close? I'd say I was as off as could be my friend! haha.

Sounds like a dream machine, J. Granny gear with 3.55's powered by a 300? She'll pull the moon closer if you could find a rope long enough.

Where can I see pictures of this new Bronk?

Proud of you. Figures you could get the carb working in two seconds in a parking lot. Good job!
