OK,
I want to temporarily run my 2 speed through a 40 amp relay for the low speed, but want to hook it to a switch mounted on the dash. I can't for the life of me figure out how to run this relay through a switch and then back to the fan. What am I not seeing?
one terminal gets the steady 12v from the battery, one goes to ground, the other goes to the fan, and the last one goes into the switch that you want to wire up. I would find a simple 12v source from the fuse box, and wire in the 12v to one side of the switch that you'll use to turn it on and off...then from the other side of the switch, wire that wire into pin 86 on the back of the relay....then run pin 85 to any good ground....
pin 87 will go into the fan, while pin 30 will get a solid 12v straight from the batt...I used the batt side of the starter solonoid for this. Wire in a 40 amp fuse inbetween the wire from the batt and pin 30 of the relay.
So will the 40 amp fuse from the batery and 40 amp relay cover high speed on the fan, or just low speed? The relay says it's rated for 60 amps for lights, and non motor things, and 40 amps for motors, which is the fan.
It uses a 50 amp fuse for a dual speed fan like this one? So 50 covers the high speed? I hooked this one up to high speed, and it ran it and didn't blow the fuse, but that doesn't mean it will work for hours on end I know.
If I were you, I would do a search regarding the T. fan relays. There is a company who makes aftermarket relays for those fans, for the 4X and racing crowd. IIRC they make dual 60 amp relays for the T. fans.
I would rather know for certain than guess, if it were me.

He is just wiring up the fan temporarily until DCC Specialties begins taking orders again.
