Hello Everyone, and thanks in advance for any help.
I have an 01 F350 with a 7.3 Power-Stroke single alternator charging system. I have a 4. amp draw. I have put a amp-meter in between the ground and ground cable and have unhooked the alternator(all wires) and pulled every fuse and circuit breaker from under the hood and in the dash. Nothing changes the draw. I have also taken a digital thermometer and have not been able to find anything warm under the hood first thing in the am. Any Ideas-Thanks Keith
Thanks Steve, I put my digital thermometer to it and it was the same temp as everything else under there but I will pull the wires off it and check.-Keith
another thought is the glow plug relay, it could be leaking some current......
at this point it is really just shooting in the dark, you have already done the easy stuff, pulling the fuses, alternator, looking for heat.....I would start disconnecting big stuff next, probably the glow plug relay relay first then isolate the starter
This may be a long shot, but a battery with a shorted cell can become a load to the good battery and drain it! Try disconnecting both batteries and measuring the voltage of each battery separately. The voltage on a good battery should be about 12.5VDC.
Steve-Thanks again. I unhooked the relay's and no change....Nick99 Thank you also for helping. I actually today(this has been going on for two weeks)had problems with one of the batteries dry out and start smoking. I filled it with distilled water and it wont take a charge now. The new question if that battery had been weak and or shorted would it show as a draw through the amp meter?
Clem and Nick 99.....Sorry I disappeared. I dozed off that night and things got hectic. Anyway I replaced both batteries. They were only 8 months old but because of the going dead cycles they both failed. Put the new batteries in and still the same draw. Started messing around with a test light. I found that if I hit the test light to the engine it lite up and pulsed. So I went down to the starter and there is power to both large terminals and the starter casing itself(brighter than any where else on the engine) Tried to buy a new starter solenoid but every where I went it was about 3/4 of an inch longer than the original one. Which made the wire going into the starter too short. Fighting this out now. Again Big Thanks to both of you for spending time helping a total stranger.

Tell me where both ends of the test light for the above test.
Let me know where each lead of the ammeter is when you are testing for the current drain.
