460 break in

I'm getting ready to break in my non efi 460...the first thing you have to worry about is the camshaft in my opinion if it's flat tappet. My camshaft manufacturer recommends adding specificially formulated "engine break in oil" when you fill it up with dino oil (not synthetic) for the first time. I'll prime the oiling system with an old distributor shaft in a drill running in reverse. Then the instructions are to run the engine at 2000rpm for 20-25 minutes. I haven't gotten any further than that, so maybe someone else will chime in here.

It's not solid lifter so you don't have to get real crazy abt the break in.
Keep it *around* 2K and no load (parked). The speed is just to ensure a good flow of oil to the cam and lifters as they "marry".
Then let it cool down and take a drive.
If it's a whole new street engine things should be tight at first.
Keep the rpms under 3500 and don't push hard.
Vary the rpm's constantly.
Change the oil and filter at 3-5 hundred miles and again at 1500.
Start to drive the truck more normally.
As you put miles on it it will rev more freely, gas mileage and cylinder pressure will noticeably improve.
When I swapped my engine in 2008 didn't use anything like Brad Penn, just a Dino diesel oil with high ZDDP to help prevent galling before everything polished itself.
Don't use synthetic oil during the break in period or you might have ring seating problems.
I hope some of this helps.
To add:
!) I just realized your EFI 460 has Cat's and O2 sensors. I would not use High ZDDP Oil or an additive in this case and would hope the assembly lube would do the job.
2) If and when you prime the pump with the distributor out, be SURE the socket can't fall off the drill. Buy an extended one piece nut driver if you must.
