There are 2 screws on the throttle linkage side. Are you sure you are turning the idle one and not the one for the transmission kickdown? Do you have the electric choke on it? That can also cause this as it kicks in the fast idle circuit.
#1 check for vacuum leaks. You have 3 ports on the front and most Edelbrocks and all Carter AFBs have a large port in the back as well.
#2 make sure the secondary throttle "tang" isn't overly bent. It is located on the passenger side near the rear of the carb.
#3 for a rough fuel mixture setting, start with the screws 2 1/2 turns OUT, then fine tune with a vacuum gauge once you get the idle situated.
#4 what initial timing are you running? And where are you installing the vacuum advance line? It should be the passenger side 1/4" port. Driver's side is full vacuum. So is the big PCV port on the front.
I've already done all that too, but I don't know what the timing is right now, I've just adjusted it by ear for now, I just can't figure out why its still idleing so high,
If you have the idle screw "completely turned down as far as it will go" you have it at the max high idle. You have to back the screw out for the idle to drop.
yes it is possibable that I have the timing advanced that far, I do have a timing light to adjust the timing correctly. but I"m not worrying about the timing since I can't get the engine to idle under 2000rpm, and the engine is a 76 302 and a c6 tranny
As Josh said, get a timing light and see what your timing is first. It doesn't do any good to mess with the carb if your timing is off. Also, the box settings for idle/mixer screws on edelbrock usually are pretty close to what you should have. So, if they were 2 1/2 turns out, I would keep them there. Most times, those screws are only adjusted by maybe a 1/4 turn either way. Again, make sure there are no vacuum leaks. Vacuum leaks can also reek havoc on trying to tune.
and like i said i do have a timing light. everything that has been said so far has been done. so please stop telling me to do something that has been said. it is still idling too high.

Well in your last post you said you wasn't worried about the timing so most people are going to think you haven't checked it yet.
Check to make sure your throttle rod (from the pedal) isn't too short. When I put a new intake on (still kept the 1406), I had to ajust my pedal "rod". It's not a cable...so I don't know the technical name for it.
Also, is it completely warmed up when you are adjusting it? Your fast idle may be adjusted improperly,or it may not be releasing. It's on the passenger side.
i mentioned that(throttle linkage) earlier he didnt say if he checked it.. question though so you have the timing light but you havent used because your not worried about the timing? and buck has tried to tell you nicely that overadvanced timing can cause high idle! so yes you probably should be somewhat interested in what your timing is before..people are only trying to help and getting an attitude probably wont yeild too much help...
