I have a 2008 F250 and recently was pulling my 5th wheel when the Trailer Disconnected warning came on. Pulled over - all electrical connections still intact - wiggled and all is well. Another few miles hit a bump - same warning - another bump back connected????
I have the factory Ford Brake Module (TCM) - besides hooking another trailer to see if it does the same thing ( SO would love a new trailer LOL) is there a way to check which end is the problem - truck or trailer?
Is there a better chance its the trucks connector or the trailer plug? If I have to change both - will go with the better odds.
I’m putting my money on the trailer connector. <O</O Try some contact cleaner from an auto supply or Radio Shack. <O</O I fixed mine with a Ty-Rap around the trailer connector and the truck receptacle cover, used a lot of Ty-Raps over the years but it always stayed connected.
Everyone has a different experience. Mine has been it is almost always the seven pin on the truck. I carry a small bottle of Stabilant contact enhancer. That darn stuff is like magic. It saves me more work than I can say. Of course, in a pinch, I have been known to spit into the seven pin, but that may just be supersitious behavior on my part.
Thanks for the replies, I will give both a good cleaning and then obtain some Stabilant.
Looks like it would come in handy on a few things on the boat also.
Not sure tie wraps will help as it is still plugged in when I get the message - but I have plenty of large ones handy - better than stopping on the side of the road.

The contacts on both ends were in good shape (contact cleaner and dielectric grease). BUT the rubber part of the trailer plug was worn out, they wouldn’t stay together, didn't separate much just enough to lose contact. The Ty-Raps kept them together. Haven’t had any trouble with the new (in 07) trailer (contact cleaner and dielectric grease).
