For the exchange rate valid today, times the Aussie price by 0.9 to get the price in US dollars! So A$152,990 = US$137,691 = one very expensive truck!

I didn't know that it cost so much to put the steering wheel on the wrong side.

Damn M8!! You really need to immigrate. Hell, the way things are going here, you can just come on up. They aren't checking anyone's papers, you can "plug in to the system" and you will like it here almost as much as Australia, I promise.

Either jobs pay a lot better down there, or there aren't many superdutys driving around as there are here in the states.

That's more than I paid for my pickup AND the driveway that I park it in.

Full size pickups in the US sense are a rarity down here. I've counted 8 in my city of 300,000 people.

There are a lot more of the Euro Ford Transit type vehicles.

And what do they cost, $60,000?

By the time you put a tray on the 4 door cab chassis you would not get much change out of AUD$60,000 for a LWB Transit.

So is it import duties or something else that drives the price higher?

Or are they built there in Australia?

And no, there are no F-trucks built in Australia.

The Australian company which sells the 137 grand new F-Truck here buys them from a Texas dealer, ships them over to Australia, pays the import duty and taxes, then spends about AUD$50,000 doing the conversion. Essentially here you have to pay for the truck to get US built, then shipped half way around the world, unbuilt, and then rebuilt with a whole pile of specially made 'mirror image' parts for our tiny tiny market.
It sounds a bit bizarre, but Ford Australia was doing exactly the same thing from 1999 to 2006 for the 7.3's. The only change was when the US went to the new 2004 model, Ford Australia just kept importing the 7.3, sourcing them from Brazil when they were no longer available from the US.

The fact that the F trucks were such low volume in Australia, and Ford could pick up an 'equivalent' truck from Europe in RHD, meant that Ford Australia pulled the pin on the F-truck in 2006.
My truck was built in 2005, but as far as I can ascertain, is the same as a US 2003 model. When I pull pieces off my truck and check them out, I can find 'made in Brazil' on them. I suspect that Ford Brazil got the tooling to make the 7.3s when the US production lines were re-tooling for the 2004 model. Good piece of 're-use' there.

Anyway, my gain cause I love the 7.3!

Thats interesting, but just an FYI, the re-tool here was done during the 2003 model year. I have a 2003 7.3 and my friend has a 2003 6.blow.
