And no, there are no F-trucks built in Australia.
The Australian company which sells the 137 grand new F-Truck here buys them from a Texas dealer, ships them over to Australia, pays the import duty and taxes, then spends about AUD$50,000 doing the conversion. Essentially here you have to pay for the truck to get US built, then shipped half way around the world, unbuilt, and then rebuilt with a whole pile of specially made 'mirror image' parts for our tiny tiny market.
It sounds a bit bizarre, but Ford Australia was doing exactly the same thing from 1999 to 2006 for the 7.3's. The only change was when the US went to the new 2004 model, Ford Australia just kept importing the 7.3, sourcing them from Brazil when they were no longer available from the US.
The fact that the F trucks were such low volume in Australia, and Ford could pick up an 'equivalent' truck from Europe in RHD, meant that Ford Australia pulled the pin on the F-truck in 2006.
My truck was built in 2005, but as far as I can ascertain, is the same as a US 2003 model. When I pull pieces off my truck and check them out, I can find 'made in Brazil' on them. I suspect that Ford Brazil got the tooling to make the 7.3s when the US production lines were re-tooling for the 2004 model. Good piece of 're-use' there.
Anyway, my gain cause I love the 7.3!
