Ok, I know that it won't be available over there, but the details were announced today what will be in the 2006 BF Ford Falcon in Australia.
I (for once ) am not trying to rub it in, I thought you might be interested thats all.
Here are some of the major specs: Base engine:
4.0l Straight six with Dual Overhead Camshafts with variable independant timing. Dual knock sensors.
254hp @ 5250rpm
287lbft @ 2500rpm
Available as a propane exclusive engine as well, power drops to 208hp and 280lbft.
Optional 3V 5.4l V8:
5.4l Modular V8 with single overhead camshafts per bank, and variable valve timing.
307hp @ 5350rpm
374lbft @ 3500rpm
Power figures are yet to be announced on the optional 4V V8 and all of FPV's (Ford Performance Vehicles - our equivelant to SVT) variants.
The other VERY BIG news is the availability of a 6 speed ZF auto - the same transmission which is fitted to the likes of the Porsche Cayenne, Jaguar S-type R etc.
It enables 62mph cruising @ 1500rpms on the 6 cylinder variants.
Ford makes some neat stuff--diesel Focuses (Focii?), Couriers (all flavors), Falcons, etc. Of course, they don't sell any of it here. No demand? I doubt that.
That car would be a big winner here in the States. Even if Ford had to re-tune it for emssions, or offer other engine options, or whatever, no doubt in my mind it would sell very well.
THAT is what Ford needs over here to compete w/ the Accord and Camry.
It is quite a bit larger than both those cars...
And it is RWD, so think more 300C competitor, but I see no reason why it wouldn't steal some sales from either the Accord or the Camry.
If it rides as well, and has as much power (or more) than the accord or camry then it would do very well here. That's the reason those cars sell. They are comfortable to drive, and powerfull enough for the daily commute.
I read a story this week about Ford coming in last on a new car quality check (Toyota and BMW were first). That Falcon looks like a great car (the original was a dog) with some serious power.
Dono
That's what I am talking about...
Ford North America need to extract their craniums from their rectums and build these here. They would outsell the whole years production of 500's in a month. All the engineering is done.. what in the world are they thinking.
North America never gets the good cars. Id like to see the AWD Ford Focus (or whatever the European moniker for that model is) here. I think it could compete well.
Yeah, I know. I bet one reason ford doesent have those Falcons up here is because it would directly compete with the mustang. Kinda how Chevy got itself into hot water with the camaro getting almost as fast and almost as expensive as the corvette.
A four door family car with a hot six compete with the V8 Mustang? I dont think so... or Chargers would be outselling them big time..
and surely they could make that engine run clean enough for California, the 4.2 V6 is really, really old German technology and it's cleaned up enough to get by..
