I'm doing some wiring on my 1971 crew cab 4x4 has a 360 4 speed no wires were hooked up off of the alternator I have a bigger black wire and a smaller yellow wire coming from the back of the alt they go into a black inch long or so box shaped thing and a single black wire out the other end question is what is that box a inline fuse? and where does it connect to? I think it gos to the positive battery post side of the starter relay but not sure
You should just drive it over to my house, and take my truck in its place.
The black and yellow go to the voltage regulator(the box). There's a diagram for it somewhere online, I'm sure. It's been too long since I've had to rewire an Alt. The red does go to either the batt or the starter sol.
by the big red wire on back of the alternator do you mean the big black one that links with the little yellow wire? i have 4 wires coming off the alt they are orange, black/red, white/black, and the big black wire that links with a yellow wire. the yellow wire comes from a electronic regulator mounted on the radiator support and links with the big black wire. what wire(s) do i need to hook up to the battery to charge it? and also ive read some things about the 3g alt upgrade can anyone ttell me whats all involved in doing this upgrade what kind of wiring needs re ran?
