ZF6s for Ford are diesel specific for the 2001–2010 Ford Super Duty F-250-F-550 With 5.4L/6.8L Engines. General Motors used the ZF6 transmission in the 1989-1996 Corvette (Model Number ZF S6-40) and in 2001 mated to their 8100 Vortec and the Isuzu Duramax (Model Number ZF S6-650) engines.
You need the ZF5 with the 460 bell housing configuration. 1987 - 1995 for the F250, F350, & F450 trucks. In 1996 the ZF s5-42 was re-designed to be the ZF s5-47. Basically the same transmission but a bit tougher, being able to handle 470 lbs of torque rather than 420 lbs. The synchro teeth were enlarged to provide longer life and more positive shifts, and the bearing retainer was designed to be replaced without having to disassemble the case. The case was beefed up.
To mate a ZF6 to a 460 you'd have to weld on a bell housing from a ZF5 to the ZF6, modify the input shaft and probably a whole bunch of other mods until all the correct parameters were present. A big experiment for someone with mucho cash.
