so the other day i got in my truck, started it up and it sounded and felt fine but after putting it into reverse and moving a little bit it suddenyl changed the tone of the exhaust and misses or pops at idle and when i drive it, it no longer has the pick up it used to. it also shakes and ton when i accelerate
would do a full tune up.. plugs/wires/cap/rotor/fluids.. check your idle sensors check your vacuum lines.. replace fuel filters.. make sure your fuel rail is getting the proper pressure
CHECK ANY CODES BEING THROWN just because there is no CEL doesn't mean there aren't any codes..
i did put a set of plugs in it and the cap and rotor are less than a year old, i had taken the engine out and had it rebuilt last year. the thing that confused me is that the tone of the exhaust changed to like a chug almost and the exhaust also kind of stinks now.
so i did a compression cheack and theyre all within 10psi of each other and at the correct psi and i also took the valve cover off and cranked over the engine without the coil wire on and checked that all my valves and valve springs are free and moving and it still runs and sounds bad.
Not sure why you mention the O2 sensor in the topic title but don't mention it in your posts, but it's really common for the little cross over tube the O2 sensor screws into to corrode and break.. Have you checked yours?
I had that happen on my '87 by the time it was 5-6 yrs old. The EFI 4.9 has twin outlet exh manifolds and two down pipes and just ahead of the first CAT there will be a little tube between the two header pipes that the O2 sensor screws into. That all has to be solid.
