My friend has a 1999 2WD SuperDuty wiht the 7.3L Diesel and 4R100 Tranny. He has the the infamous sudder at 40mph. He took it into a tranny shop and they told him it was the torque converter.
I decided to look into the problem a bit and found some great information on this board. So this weekend we did a complete tranny flush. We flushed the tranny, oil cooler and all the lines.
This did not improve his situation at al.
So now its time to replace the torque converter. Question is... what is a good replacement for a reasonable cost? Can somebody point me in the right direction with part numbers and cost?
PRO-LOC®. series 13 ½" torque converter is one of a kind for the Ford 7.3L Power Stroke diesels with the 4R100/E4OD transmission. Replaces the OEM style 12" converter. The PRO-LOC®. features a CNC machined billet cover, with a 70% increase in clutch area over the single plate models currently in use. The furnace brazed pump, silicon welded turbine, 4140 heat-treated steel splines, and Torrington bearings addresses the performance and durability concerns for the Power Stroke heavy haulers and /or increased HP and torque upgrades. These converters come with a 36 month unlimited horse power, unlimited mileage warranty.
Probably doing this wrong, but; Have stock 97 4dr 7.3 T.Dies. 4x4. I haul 7 tons of hay 1-2 times monthly. Have to rebuild trans. and am told by shop that Factory T.Converter is as good as it gets. Not sure I believe that. I want a Torq. Converter that does not slip, will get me 200,000 miles, will stay together, and will run cool. Any suggestions would be gratfully appreciated, for that matter, any one's expierience's in this endeavor are invited. Thank You.
Ok, I need a torque converter, but can not afford a 1300.00 T.C. Is there anything out there suggestive with you guys that have been down this road, that is much stronger thatn factory oem, but wont cost me a arm to purchase it. Thanks for your replys. Have a 97 4dr crew cab auto trans 4x4 7.3 Turbo Dies. with overdrive
