what are my options on transfer cases for my early bronco puting in a 5.8/351W and the M5R2 5 Speed ? it will mostly be used as a daily driver on high ways and maybe a mountain road but nothing to hard or extreme
Esp w/the mazda transmission. Not many use them 4 off rd (or in an EB)...that may B why no reply in 3 days, not the holiday. But hang on, some 1 may show up soon 8-)
Also try CB as that's where most hang out n may B of help.
My only familuarity w/that M5 is w/the 4.9 folks on line here. I have not seen 1. That tranny is not 4 wd is it? It has to B some sorta 4wd tranny to get hooked up to a T-case. I think it's a rd. tranny only.
With the 5.8 U may want a 205 and a ZF or NV 3550 or 4500. Let us know your developments (or other Qs). Good Luck!

the M5R2 5 Speed i got came from a 92 f150 5.0 4x4
OK, cool. Why not what ever is usually w/them. OEM usually is very well researched n designed.
Can U B any more specific on the application beside "not much off rd"? Tire sz, r. gear, expected uesS. I'm a little confused B cuz the 351s I've seen in EBs were pre-runners n such (not rd machines). EVERY thing automotive is about application, use, end goal...
U could go to CB or our forum where the mazda is used (f150 or 300/4.9). U can C from my sig below I've done some well thought out modifying, it's taken yrs of research and even more time cuz of poverty. 8-} Mine is not a rec vehicle. It's a mini tractor...skids in logs to the band saw mill, hauls up rock for the foundation on the acreage, sm loads of lumber on traler to sites a 4wd & back-in dump is needed (got a rd truck for the bigger ones), pays most month's of winter mortgage (sno is white gold 4 the bronk). U may hafta move around some for the info. Use your search function on the net. Most of the bronco drivers like something stronger than the M5 - but again -it's all about application.
Welcome to the forum. Bronco 1 is NOT lively tho. I stick w/the 300 crowd n lots of help there...CB is ur best bet!
If you are going to go 351W... good choice btw... go with a 1" body lift or you will have hell getting your stock hood to close... it will also help with the M5R2 trans... I am pretty sure you will be stuck with the NP302... think thats what those truck came with... none of those things are bad... just not hardcore... so that's why people dog on them so much... Biggest thing you need to know is the length of the trans... if you are running stock to 33" tires its not as much a concern... but if you have a big suspension life like a 5.5" then you need to make sure its not so long you need a high pinion carrier to clear the driveshafts.... if its a couple inches longer then stock... you can re-use the driveshafts.
Hey Bohbah,
What is the width on a "stock 33 incher"?...10.5? My EB came w/27 inche (something er the other) 78s.
Thanks, dooood. (wish the thread I;m respondin 2 was viewable right now).
'N' is the High Boy the only "high pinion" that'll fit us? (That's "full width" n can't B as small as our lill' bob tails [5"8' or so])
Thanx,
Usually 10.5" if the are sold as 33's... then they also have 14.5" in a 33 as well sometimes... I think there may have also been skinnies too... then there is the p-metric 33.... but I cant give you what they are in width...
p-metric
Yeah, still havin trouble w ci vs Lt myself.
Anyway U confirmed...10.5". I'm lookin 4 a nine fifty (33X 15 or 16). The 16" is to run a Bud wheel 8-) my fav. Get rid a these wagons (which, in ur own language) btw, aint too bad. Yeah, w/some $ a BFG AT/KO wouldn't B 2 bad for work here on the acreage (don't have a rec vehicle) 80% off rd/20% on Rd drivin.
