I would bet that under the dash one of the vacuum lines has come loose or has a hole in it. Look under both sides (passenger & drivers) for a plug where 5 or 6 lines come together. And also look for the actuators. Or there could be a vacuum leak under the dash or hood.

Can you give more detail on how to find a vac leak? Where do I look under the dash? What do the vac lines look like?
My problem seems to be related to the doors that control the air flow. The drivers side gets all the cold air from the A/C, and all the warm air when the heater is on.
Are those doors vacuum-operated?
does anyone know why my a/c won't blow out of the dash vents on acceleration-it blows super cold so not a freon issue.
Had the exact same issue with my 2003 Escape.
Vehicle was still under warranty and all it was was a vacuum line had become disconnected that holds open the deflector doors to control where the air flow is directed.
The service manager told me I could of waited for the vehicle instead of leaving it there all day.
I have a 2006 xlt and mine does the same on acceleration but didnt ford design it that way to give you more power for quick acceleration? as I thought it was normal ......

Yes, on some vehicles during WOT the A/C is disabled but I have no idea which ones.
Manuals mention but don't list them, is some vehicles, the torque converter is unlocked under WOT also. The ON/OFF cycling time of the A/C clutch is monitored, if done too often it disables the clutch as not to damage the torque converter.
