Ranger lost reverse.
#16
Does anyone have a part# for the reverse servo on a 4r44e? My father has a 2000 Ranger with the 2.5 and has no reverse, all forward gears work as well as the manual low range forward gears. There was also no bang when it went out.
Some reading I have done in the past lead me to think that if low gear worked then it was not the reverse servo because they share the same servo, is this true?
Also first I have heard of the band slipping off the strut very good info thank you, is the only "fix" for that a tear down?
The transmission in the truck now is a junk yard transmission, the original went out the same way no reverse but at that time he made the mistake of going to a National chain shop to get back on the road. This turned out to be problem after problem, finally he got a transmission from the "yard" and has been running on it for over 100k the "rebuilt" transmission was suposedly fixed by the National chain but my dad did not want them to put it back in so we have it sitting in the garage.
I think it would be better to fix the transmission that is in the truck rather than put in the rebuilt one, I have heard that the National repair shops bore the valve body out and most of the time that is not needed and leads to problems in the future, is this correct?
