My truck popped a P2290 while accelerating to pass someone on the highway the other day. A forum search points me towards the ICP, IPR, or a HPO system leak. More info is in the quote below.

The little bit of digging I did seemed to point at a HPOP leak. Maybe I should take it in, but I cleared the code with my insight so they'd have to take my word for it.
I took the truck into the dealer today. They'll look at it tomorrow and let me know what they find.
No I wouldn't Mark. I guess after the first attempt to fix a known concern failed, Navistar needed to do further updating to make it a one piece connector in order to fix the issue once and for all. After the release of the current update, MANY of us (myself included) were left wondering what the purpose was to having a quick release type connector there in the first place.
The SA just called and said that the HPO system passed a pressure test through the ICP sensor port, and that they replaced the IPR valve.
Hopefully more details about the testing that was done will be on the service sheet. I don't think there's anyway to mistakenly pass a HPO system pressure test. However, I'm hopeful that they also tested the ICP sensor.
I would have been surprised if they had found a HPO system leak, as the truck starts better warm than cold. However, I've been wrong once or twice before.
Any words of wisdom, or other thoughts about what I should ask the SA when I pick up the truck? TIA
Check engine light comes on when driving
IPR code P2290
Performed 6.0L diesel diag-test eec-P2290
Chk oil, chk intake & exhaust - OK
Chk fuel pressure - 55lbs
Removed oil filter cap & chk for base engine oil pressure - OK
Removed ICP sensor to test HP oil system - No leaks
Monitor PIDS - IPR valve slow to move
Replaced IPR valve & clear codes. Tetest & Reroad test - OK
The invoice also notes that the alignment, batteries, brakes and tires were inspected.
I've never heard of an IPR valve being "slow to move". Does that mean the actual injection pressure wasn't keeping up with the commanded injection pressure?
The SA just called. He said the high pressure oil system continues to pass pressure testing, so the Ford engineer directed them to replace the ICP sensor and pig tail.
They justified this action by saying there was a bad batch of ICP sensors that intermittently send an incorrect reading when the engine is under load and trigger the P2290 code.
They're going to leave the ticket open for another week or two, just in case.
No charge for this visit.
I've got my fingers' crossed, but I'm not gonna hold my breath. I better make a point to get out and put a few miles on the truck over the next week.
I feel like I'm talking to myself here.
I'm also really starting to wonder if I dare keep this truck past the warranty expiration this coming December without buying the extended warranty.
Picked up the truck this morning and headed home. 30 miles into the trip home I decide to simulate passing another vehicle. I accelerate moderately from 60mph to 80mph and the SES light came back on.
The Insight tells me it's P2290 again.
The truck is going back to Ford this afternoon. Good thing they left that ticket open.
