I am a 6.0 guy, but I need some gurus to help me out here. I have a 99 7.3 E series ambulance. The agency is selling this truck, but they took some parts out of it and now it doesnt run. I cant communicate with the ECU, the and the idle control module says CERR, I am assuming that means communication error.
I have checked all the fuses, was wondering if the aux. idle controller would have anything to do with that. There is a bundle of wires that was either cut or never hooked up.
I have no scematics on this truck, and the company that built it is out of buisness.
Also the wait to start light does not come on. Before they took the parts out of it the truck started and ran fine.
What do you mean "took parts out"? What specifically did they take out? Sounds they took necessary parts to it's operation. Can you access to these parts?
Wondering if they messed with the PCM and didn't hook it back up correctly. Is the grounding clip still there? Is the connection on the front side of the firewall tight?
The only parts taken out were the siren box, the PCM connection is still tight, not sure where the grounding strap would be.
It makes no sense to me why this happened., however there was a pile of blown fuses on the floor, so I am wondering if they fried something and it back fed through the aux. idle controller, through the communication wires to the pcm.
If you could tell me where the ground strap is I will look to see if its there.
Somewhere to start... Check the #30 fuse and see if it's one of the ones that are blown. That controls the PCM and heater element in the fuel filter bowl. If it's bad, it will knock out your PCM and no wait to start light on the dash. you replace it and it continues to blow, unhook the wires leading to the back of the fuel bowl assembly, replace fuse and try to start.
# 30 fuse is good it was one of the first ones I checked
I found the schematic from another newer 450 with the aux. idle controller, and all the wores that are cut are for aux. inputs so they wernt used anyway.
Hmmm Took parts out and now it won't run. Sounds like a butcher job to me. I would be getting back with those that raped it and ask them what exactly they did. If you guys contract out for your emergency equipment, I would fire them if THEY didnt get it running again.
I have done alot of emergency vehicles and with the way some wiring is routed, care is needed removing or changing anything. Too easy to clip or short a factory wire that can shut her down. With the pile of burnt fuses, sounds like they knew there was a problem to being with and just gave up. I would be contacting the guys with the hatchets for info. Maybe even something in passing as they try to remember could help in figuring this one out.
Can you post any pics of some of the harnesses you mentioned? Some of the guys on here are pretty good about recognizing things that seem confusing to the rest of us.
The guy that did it denys any involvement. I am independant from the agency, I , unfortunatly, was asked to see if I could fix it. As for the harness that is cut, well I am sure that it has to do with the non Ford end of things, but like you said with a pile of burnt fueses, anything is possible.
I did find out the ground wire was pulled out of the aux. idle controller and I am thinking it was shorted to power and killed the ecm. That ground wire goes into the 4 pin connector which I believ goes back to the pcm. The connector is shared by the communication power and ground wires.
