Polishing Chrome
Any tips on polishing chrome plated exhaust? i have some chrome plated exhaust for a dune buggy project i am working on. i got the exhaust from a friend but it is not shiny, has some pits, and a few rust spots. i have read a few articles about just using chrome polish and some ultra fine steel wool. how is ultra fine steel wool compared to a scotch brite pad?

I find that rubbing compound works pretty good for getting surface rust off. After that then you can polish it and it comes out pretty good.
That will not work of course if the metal is pitted very heavy, it will make it shiny, but the pitts will still be there, which requires rechroming.
I use sandpaper if need be, never tried steel wool as I'm afraid it will scratch it too deep.
