Yep, Ross is WAY right! I'd move the solenoid over to the drivers side where it belongs, then shorten up and thicken up that battery cable - quite a bit.

That is EXTREMELY dangerous having a positive battery cable laying atop a hot grounded engine!

The solenoid is on the same side as the battery. For the '48-50 six cylinder on the driver's side and the V8 on the passenger side. It helps to have them on the same side as the distributor so you can bump the engine to set the points.

The voltage regulator looks to be in the wrong place, as well. It should be higher on the firewall, nearer the pinchweld seam. I think if you look close, you may be able to see the original screw locations.

Big hole facing to the pass. side, where arrow points (appears to be where the choke cable is going). Speedo uses same hole. Grommets are still available. Vac hose looks right.

I found the original starter switch holes, they where covered, maybe the PO had a V-8 wires harness and moved the starter relay over to the right
Thanks again

Ross,

I don't have one of my trucks handy right now but I think the speedo cable runs under the top edge of the tanny cover on the driver's side and curves around to the back of the transmission. I'll have to take a look tonight when I get home.

In the above picture the choke cable and vacuum line is coming out of the correct holes

Benijeep,

I just thought of something, did I sell you some parts for your truck a few months ago? I know I sold a hood air dam and air cleaner to some one in PR.

Bob, early trucks, like yours has the speedo cable exiting lower near the trans cover. Later trucks have it coming out higher as Ross mentioned. Just another one of those little changes that went with different "dentistry." ;-)

If the setup in Ray's picture is correct and the choke cable and vacuum lines are coming out of the correct holes then it looks like they've been reversed on my truck. Here's another picture with a different perspective. It seems it would make sense for the choke line to be above the vacuum line since that's how they're attached to the carburetor.
