'99 v-10 Electrical issue

Just got a '99 f-250 SD v-10, didnt notice any of this during the "test drive"
but about a week later, i noticed the "door ajar" light on, of course i've run around slamming doors to no affect, now i notice the Dome lights comming on and off while driving, not sure if its when im hitting the brakes, turning or accelrating.. and finnally.. the has to be a short, because im killing my battery, give it 24hrs of no starting and the battery is dead.. swapped out the battery with a known good used one and the problem followed.
the truck is really hardly drove, bought it only to pull my 5'ver to the lake.
I can tell you that after say 2weeks, if you look at the batter + post, theres a huge pile of dried acid on there.

would appreciate any help on this puzzle.

was going to start, by replacing the Battery Cables this weekend.

Thanks.

try looking at the pin switchs for each door..

i bet you have at least one thats rotted/ not working properly...

i seem to remember a thread a awhile back about someone replacing them , think it was a fairly cheap repair..but i might be remembering it wrong..

i think the switch is in the door latch.

Some have had good luck by blasting the lach mechanism with wd-40 or something similar. I like using Break Free CLP... it seems to stay around longer.

If the switch is in the door latch, and giving the latch a good squirt doesn't fix your problem, you should be able to disconnect the wiring harness in the door and then check to see if your short goes away.

awesome, was told almost the exact same thing today, neighbor down the street said he had an old ford that did the same thing, he was always squirting wd40 in there.

now this takes care of the "door ajar light" what about the dome lights comming on while driving, or will this issue go away when the door is lubed up.

thanks !!!

The problems are likely related seeing as the dome lights are tied to the same or related circuit with the door switch activating both the door ajar and dome lights. I'm betting you have a chaffed wire in the door if cleaning teh switch doesn't solve the issue.

hey guys, that fixed it, the latch was gummed up alright, shot some brake cleaner in there and worked the assembly, then once dry shot some lube in there and worked it some more, did this on all 4 doors. ajar light goes off immediately now, and while
driving around town the dome light never came on...

thanks guys. Great site !!!!
