So I'm driving around a couple of weeks ago and I noticed my battery light is on. When I get home and look down it's off. I took the truck to have the battery tested along with a load test. The test indicated that everything is good; battery is producing correct amperage and the alternator appears to be doing its job.
The weird thing about this light is, when I start the truck up on a cold morning and drive my 43 miles to work, the light stays off. However, when I'm driving home in the afternoon and it's warmer outside, the damn light comes back on.
At this point I'm baffled. The light comes and goes constantly. What should I be checking, this light is getting on my nerves?
The Light will come one some times when your Glowplugs are on if you have a weakening Alternator. The Light comes on when the Alternator is not flashing the electrical field. going to autozone they wont be able to know that it is going unless the light happens to come on while they are testing it. Your alternator is getting weak not comming on it will slowly kill off your batteries.
possibility # 2 is that the electrical plug on the back of the alternator is loose make sure that connection is not loose. because it will also lead to the above.
Also, If you have a Mulitmeter or Voltage meter take a reading at the batteries while the truck is running you should be getting right around 14.6ish volts.
I have a V10 but I'll try the volt meter test. I've already checked the cable connection on the back of the alternator and its tight. When I took it to get the battery checked and the load test done, the battery light was on.
