Instrument cluster?

I'm sitting here waiting for parts to get this truck running. I have the 47, 1 and 1/2 flatbed. I purchased a repro of the owners manual that's has the 1/2 ton and 1 ton in it and I noticed the speedometer in the book goes to 100 mph. In my truck it only goes to 60 mph.

Do you suppose my instrument cluster is not original? So far the generator and distributor were from another era.

Thanks in advance,
Jack

The speedometer in my 47 tow truck only goes to 60 and it is the original. The last time I had it out on the road I had a hard time keeping up to traffic in a 45 mph zone. I guess that is why the speedo only goes to 60. I also had a 46 parts truck and that speedo stopped at 60 also.

Help identifying a 47 Flatbed

Thanks for the reply panhead67. That's good news to know that it's probably original especially when the odometer reads 58k. Of course in 63 years it could've been rolled over 20 times.

I bought a SMV triangle for the back so I don't get rear ended.

Thanks again,

Jack

The 60 MPH speedometer is correct for your truck, the 4 speed trucks had the speedometer only going to 60 MPH. 3 speeds went to 100 MPH.

In a big truck like yours, no worries of breaking speeding laws, that's for sure. But even the 100 MPH speedo of the 3 speeds was incredibly optimistic. The truck will top at about 70, and at that point the engine is just screaming along. The fastest I ever had my '46 6 cylinder, 3 speed, 3.78 rear end up to was almost 70, but it was really pushing it.
