My driver side door sags and i have to lift it up to close it. It looks like the upper hinge is the problem, the pin and bushings have a lot of play in them. I have found a complete upper hinge for like 15-20 bucks. My question is, would it be easier to try and replace the upper hinge or just the pin and bushing. Could i replace the upper hinge without taking the door completely off. Any ideas or advice is appreciated. Thanks
Bronco graveyard has pin & bushing kits. Mine will need this soon, and I'm planning to avoid pulling the hinges and re-alinging. Looking at the design, the wear should be in the pin and bushing rather than the hinges themselves.
Lots of times the pin wears out the bushing then it eggs the hinge. You may be better off replacing the entire hinge. Pull the door, mark the post, replace the upper hinge (I'd do both w/ new) aligning w/ marks made, pull the striker pin, rehang door & adjust w/o the striker pin so you have good gaps.
Go to the parts house and there are replacement pins and bushings called "HELP"
They're a piece of cake to replace. I scribed around the top hinge, support the door with a jack, pull the hinge, replace the bushings, one on top & bottom of each hinge.
I don't recall the cost of the kit but it's around $10.00.

Easiest, would be the pins/bushings found them at both autozone and Oreilly's.
Just did the hinges sealant on passenger side hinge to cab bolts this past weekend.(whole door needed re-aligned also)
I will be leaving the hinges on the others and just cutting the pins/bushings while resting on a jack. (hopfully it works out that way unless they are leaking)
In order to get to the hinge to cab bolts without scratching paint or tweaking metal, the hinge to door bolts had to be off and the door moved aside a few inches. Doors are not light and can be awkward. The door didn't move enough to get the top hinge in/out while still being attached to the bottom, or even getting to the bolts for that matter even with a swivel extension.
We used an old wood miter box and foam on that to balance the door on the jack, removed bolts to the door side hinge, and moved it asside.
make sure you seal between the hinge and cab/door bolt panels if you remove the hinges
I have replaced pins and bushings without unbolting the hinges. You have to cut and grind the pins apart with a die grinder or maybe a Dremel. $5 well spent in my opinion.
