I picked up my 78 Supercab a couple weeks ago and have been slowly looking through it to see what needs to be done. One of the first things i notice are the bottom hinges on both doors need attention. The bushings are shot on the driver side so it sags a little when opened. The passenger side has a busted S rod that holds the door open.
Is it possible to replace the bushings and pin on the driver side or replace the whole hinge with the door still in place? I'd support the door from underneath of course but wanted to hear what other folks have done when their doors sag.
The passenger door piece looks like it just clips in so I should be able to wrangle a new one in once I find one. The bushings look great on that door.
I just replaced all my pin/bushings on both doors. Both were sagging. The whole process was difficult but managed to get all the old out and new in.
In my opinion I'd just take your doors off and replace all the pin/bushings and whatever needs to be replaced. As far as leaving your doors on and doing this. I honestly don't know if it could be done. If it can, it'd probably make the process that much more difficult.
I also bought pins/bushings from Bronco Graveyard. Very tight fit but doors open nicely now.
If you support the door you should be able to remove one hinge at a time and repair it. Replace that one and do the other hinge. May have to get creative to support the door. I mounted mine by myself using a engine hoist.
Where I'm having trouble is removing the cab side bolts to pull the hinge out. It looks like you have to remove the door to gain access to those bolts. When I was looking at it last night it didn't seem like I could get a wrench in from the side through the hinge or a ratchet between the door and front fender to reach the four cab bolts. It looked like I'd have to release the door to get to those bolts. I'll have to try a few things out tonight I suppose. Thanks for the tips!

Yep your right, those are a pain. Could remove the fender to make it easier, but that entails a little bit of work also.
I pulled the door. You might want to trace the hinges with a scribe or a marker so it's easier to put back once you've replaced the pins/bushings. I ended up using a grinder on the top of the pin then using a punch to hammer it out.
