1990 bronco diff info needed

hey everyone. Just a couple of quick questions I am assuming my rear diff is the 8.8?. I am going to drain and inspect everything before the elk hunt this year, My question is do I need to add friction modifier when I refill or not? And is 80/90 gear oil ok to use?

Read the tab on your door, the codes should specify if yours is a L/S... i'm not sure what you should be looking for (as for the letter code), but if it isn't a L/S it won't need friction modifier. The proper oil should be specified in the Owner's Manual (I searched, it's 80w90 allright).

Thanks, I will check the door tag and see what I can figure it out, If not I guess I can just wait till the cover is off and look for myself.

The axle tag will also tell you if you have the LS or not. Since you are under there anyway look for an "L" between the ratio numbers.
