Vin Check
I have a 1973 Ford F 600. 391, Clark 5 speed and Dayton 2 speed rear.
VIN: F61DCR15976
I was hoping for some help decoding this. Also, what color should the engine, trans be. Currently the former is blue and the latter is red.
Thanks for your help
F61 = F600 2WD
D = 330 2V H/D FT engine / F is the VIN engine code for the 391, all are 4V's.
C = Oakville, Ontario Canada Truck Assembly Plant. This does not mean the truck was sold new in Canada, quite the contrary.
R15976 = 1973.
The 2 speed rear axle is prolly an Eaton, since there's no such thing as a Dayton.
The engine was painted Ford Corporate Blue, what color the trans was I dunno, but it wasn't red.
Red and green are the two colors associated with transmission rebuilders.
If you post the DSO code from the Warranty Plate, I can tell you what Ford District Sales Office, in what city...the truck was ordered from. I doubt it's in Canada.
Most trucks assembled in Canada after 1968 were sold in the US of A. If you post all the codes from the Warranty Plate, I can decode all of them.
I appreciate your help. I thought about that after I posted my info, I was thinking Dana ( the rear axle in my '76 F250 4 x 4 ) and Eaton( the axle in my big truck )and it came out Dayton, thanks. I guess some one swapped the engine and sounds like the trans too. Unfortunatly there is no warrenty tag ( I'm assuming you are refering to the tag on the door ) only the Vin stamped on the frame. I will be having to get a state assigned number here in MA. The doors on the truck were replaced some time ago and have the handles found on a light duty truck. Do you know if the proper door handles are still available any where? I also am concidering addin AC to the truck. I assume that I will need to replace the non ac plunum?? (sp) with an AC unit. Any thoughts?
I'd like to post a picture of it here but have not figured out yet how to do that. Looks like I have to upload pictures to an online site first and then link to that??? Is it possible to attach right from my computer?
David

The brush fires have reared their ugly heads and are racing oughtta control along the old Ridge Route between LA and Bakersfield.
My aunt lives in Sandwich, have a Mayflower relative (came over as a merchant) buried in a historic (tiny) cemetery near West Barnstable.
